Horizontal mega menu navigation

Is UR still considering adding a Mega Menu option to Folwell?

Hello! We are wondering what the timeline for this may be, as we would be interested in using the mega menu for navigation. Thanks!
Kathy Jensen
The mega menu is under review again and may not be complete before the end of the year. The solution that was planned had a number of accessibility issues. We are exploring a new module that looks more promising and will also give us the ability to include media.

Kathy Jensen: Any updates on the development of this feature? Will this become available in 2021?
Kathy Jensen
The standard mega menu option is on hold as we investigate alternatives for a menu that can provide both this traditional link list style as well as options to include images and other components within the menu. Our current Superfish menu solution is not an option for the more advanced menu.

Kathy Jensen: Hi! Is there an update on this? I'm curious.
Kathy Jensen
Karen Shapiro: Karen—I just sent an update to the Folwell User Group that updates the status on this! It's going to take more time to find a new menu solution that will allow for things like images. OIT is investigating options that will work with Drupal 8. We'll continue to send status updates to the user group email.

Using the feedback from the Folwell Working Group and the U web community, the Mega Menu style has been redesigned to show the active page more prominently and to expand the menu to the full width of the page to accommodate breakpoint issues (see screenshot). The next steps for this component are to apply it to the Folwell site and the Pattern Library and send it on to OIT for inclusion in Drupal 8.

Folwell Working Group feedback: Reconsider the breakpoints. Current breakpoints can push the menu off the right side of the screen.

I think this is great! But agree with Rachel that perhaps there needs to be a slightly better, or more prominent visual indicator which page you are on. Maybe also changing the text to maroon? Or having the gold be an entire rectangle behind the word; or maybe a slightly darker grey behind the entire word "departments"? In my opinion, the design is worth experimenting with a little more. Thanks!

I definitely think we need a megamenu. However, the horizontal gold
line is not an obvious "you are on this page" signal to me. (I can't
even tell whether it goes with "what will I study" or "departments".)
I would prefer some other form of indication.
